Szoboszlai warns Liverpool's rivals: 'No one can stop us' if old intensity rediscovered

Liverpool just had their first win of the new season by defeating Ipswich Town 2-0 away thanks to an early brace from Alexander Isak. That was also their first victory under new head coach Andoni Iraola, who took charge after a disastrous title defense under Arne Slot's reign. After the match, midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai made confident statements on TNT Sports during a conversation with legend Steven Gerrard. He expressed admiration for Iraola's philosophy: "I like him a lot. Obviously I know he [has] a really direct playing style, intense, which I love." The Hungarian international was asked whether intensity and energy will differ from last season. He said bluntly: "I think it has to change. This is what we missed last season. If we can bring this intensity back and that we want it more than the others, we have the quality. And [with] this together, no one can stop us." Szoboszlai also revealed his favorite position is as a box-to-box No. 8, allowed to crash into the area and take shots on goal. He explained: "Get the ball from the defender, give the long passes, but also arrive in the box, be there in the last third, also shots from a little bit farther. So that's what I really like." Last season, the 25-year-old was forced to deputise at right-back on several occasions due to Jeremie Frimpong's injury problems. However, he confirmed Iraola has made it clear that is not a long-term plan: "He made it clear one time that I'm not going to play right back, which meant a lot to me. But if needs me there, obviously I'm going to be available." Szoboszlai's comments show Liverpool's high determination to reclaim their dominant status in the Premier League. With Iraola emphasizing pressing and tempo, plus a Szoboszlai eager to perform in his familiar role, The Kop has sent a strong message to their rivals.
